Thursday 6th August #LaughterSpreadsFaster

Well, this wasn’t supposed to happen.

We agreed we were through the worst, I’d take the Summer off before returning for one final farewell blog the day the kids went back to school.

The only proviso being I’d return if we took a step backwards into Lockdown.

Even when that happened specifically in Aberdeen, I resisted the call.

Then, later in the day, according to reports, two Aberdeen players tested positive for Coronavirus.

So here I am. You got me. I’m back.

But the thing is, this time, unlike before, I don’t think I’ve got it in me to try and help drag you through with a few giggles. It doesn’t feel right.

So instead, I’m going with a plea.

I tweeted it earlier, but here it is in full.

I am genuinely taken aback by some of the bile circulating on social media about Aberdeen going into localised lockdown. Some saying it’s a political diversionary tactic, others wanting to hang, draw and quarter pub-goers or owners.

Remember a few weeks back when we all applauded key workers on our doorsteps every week, and marvelled at the tenacity of an almost centenarian raising millions for the NHS by walking laps of his garden?

Remember that?! When there was talk of community spirit and kindness and looking out for your elderly or shielding isolated neighbour. Where on earth has all that gone and why have we returned to a black and white system of we’re right and they’re wrong?!

Isn’t it possible for us all to get along in the pursuit of the same goal of getting back to some kind of normal again, instead of constantly descending into petty bickering about everything at the least and earliest opportunity. It’s draining beyond belief.

I wish you and yours well, and if there’s anything I can do to help you in this time or any other please let me know.

If I can help, I will.
