Monday 8th June #LaughterSpreadsFaster

Good Morning my Directors Of The Bored,

I hope you had a fabulous weekend.

I tend not to write on the weekends, unless utterly compelled to, but the flip side of that is that come Monday, I’m weighed down under the heft of three days worth of blog material, which means I can utterly GUARANTEE a couple of bumper editions to start this brand new week.

Before I do that, I made you the promise that I would try to keep the momentum going around #BlackLivesMatter

For one thing, collating material such as I have allows me to educate myself more readily. I cannot make up for the past, but I can take responsibility for my own behaviour now and in the future, and it seems to me, whilst simplistic, if we all did that, having learned from the horrors of our history, we’d manage to eradicate this issue going forward.

Today, as we have the previous few blogs, let’s start with some of the items I’ve seen online from various outlets, which I think may be pertinent and can help. First of all the cutest, easiest to understand explainer I’ve seen this entire period.

Read | Watch | Learn | Change

And now, on with our blog for today.

People Are Amazing

I started this segment initially to shine a light on the everyday people doing amazing things to make an extraordinary difference for others in this pandemic period. Today begins no differently. Please watch this first video and be delighted by this gentleman’s talent, but also listen to what he has to say, because I believe there’s a lot of value in his words, especially when he talks about science finding the solutions to problems, and art helping us cope until the point it does.

This next story is definitely one from the files of ‘over and above the call of duty’. I’m not entirely sure how social distancing etiquette could be observed, and I don’t think we should invest much time, if any, on trying to picture how it could.

This, is baby Sienna.

She’s just added to the family on the left of this next picture, and was delivered by Mandy, on the right, on her time off duty as a midwife at the local hospital. Thankfully, Mandy stays next door to Emma and her husband, and had advised them a walk may help trigger the onset of labour. It definitely did, a little too well, and Mandy was called into action.

Finally today in People Are Amazing, proof, as if it were required that practice makes perfect, and if you want to achieve anything in life, commitment, determination and sheer dogged perseverance have to remain foremost in your mind at all times.

The Useful

If you’ve been stuck at home for long periods throughout the Coronavirus stretch, I’ll guess, like me, you’ve been drinking more coffee. You may even have been quaffing the good stuff, as a little Lockdown treat.

If so, here’s a guide on how you can re-use it to make loads of things from the beans, grounds and leftover cup – everything from DIY conditioner to plant fertiliser.

World Of The Weird

I’m not going to knock this, or question it. I’ll simply qualify it as being unusual, and leave you to take a look at the story about the couple who’ve found love over WhatsApp during Lockdown. They hope to meet soon.

Next, an eerie story from San Francisco where the Golden Gate Bridge has started to ‘sing’ after a period of renovation work was completed.

I’ve actually seen other examples of this next kind of thing happening elsewhere in the world. In much the same way you have to turn over the engine of your car during Lockdown and run it around the block to stop the brakes from seizing, rollercoasters have to be tested intermittently to make sure all their workings can continue to operate after Coronavirus. And being a Theme Park means they do things a little differently to mechanical tests conducted in other workplaces.

Things That Make You Go Awwwwww

It’s time for The Funnies

Today’s News In Brief

Let’s finish with some music.

Thousands of businesses around the world are struggling because of Coronavirus. Some may never reopen. During this period, most are frantically drawing up and enacting battle plans for survival. The Royal Albert Hall is one such entity, and whilst it may not be the type of business which immediately draws your sympathy, it’s definitely one of those towards the top of the category where you’d mourn its loss as a venue if you could no longer attend.

During this period they’ve creatively come up with #RoyalAlbertHome, sourcing performers and getting them to agree to stage a lockdown concert on the Royal Albert’s behalf in the hope of raising donations allowing them to continue to function …’on the other side.’

Here’s the footage of one such gig.

Thanks for reading

Stay safe x
