Monday April 20th #LaughterSpreadsFaster

Good Morning Directors Of The Bored!

You may well ask why I’m so chipper for a Monday morning?

Well, the kids go back to school today. I know they aren’t actually physically returning, but we try to play it as close to real as possible in our house, and I’ve decided that would include me toasting them back in at the school gates with a wee gin. Remember the tip, if it’s poured from a flask everyone else assumes it must be coffee, and in Scotland, most days, even in April, it’s cold enough that a flask doesn’t look out of the ordinary.

Although, that being said, it’s a beautiful start this morning outside my window. I’ll have my toast and another toast to that! Chin-chin.

Today’s blog’s going to look like it was written by The Reverend I M Jolly!

Obviously, I’m only joking.

I’m having cornflakes, not toast.

Anyway, on with the show. You know this site exists to put a smile on your face as often as we can throughout the social distancing period, and the funnies are here, as usual, towards the bottom of the blog, but we’re not beyond a stark reminder of what lies out there.

If you’re one of those people who can walk away from a show 4 episodes into a 6 episode season, or 3/4 of the way through a book, you’re probably also one of those people who can chuck a blog post before the end. With that in mind, if you’re going to check out one part, make it this bit we call People Are Amazing.

For my money, this is the best thing online right now. SGN (Some Good News) exists to prove that no matter how bad things are out there, there’s always some good news too. Sometimes you just have to look a bit harder. If we were to make this blog into a daily video it is exactly what we’d want to do. Watch!

Next up, The Useful.

Here’s one for you if you’re a parent.

From today, BBC Bitesize Daily is across BBC iPlayer, Red Button and online at http://www.bbc.co.uk/Bitesize.

Professor Brian Cox takes care of Science!

Man City’s Sergio Aguerro will get kids counting in Spanish.

Mabel and Liam Payne are helping with Reading and Music.

And Dr Who, Jodie Whittaker, will be dropping into Bitesize Daily lessons too. Imagine how handy a sonic screwdriver would be in tech class.

Plus, there are plans for Sir David Attenborough to teach kids about the oceans, mapping the world and why animals look the way they do.

I would watch that myself!

I interviewed Professor Brian Cox once when he was the lead guest on Day 1 of Offshore Europe. After 5 minutes of chatting I’d have followed him around the world. His enthusiasm is contagious.

The famous faces have teamed up with actual teachers, and together they’ll bring lessons to the UK’s kids for the next 14 weeks. In Scotland we’re off before that, so don’t miss the start of the hols!

Got to be worth a look.

I’ve included this in our Useful section too, because it’s wrong to laugh at others’ misfortune.

So you can’t get to the hairdresser or beautician right now. This should teach you to practice patience.

World Of The Weird

This is the section dedicated to spotlighting the increasingly bizarre behaviour on show during lockdown, present in both humans and animals alike.

Animals in particular appear to be treating the unusually quiet outside world as an opportunity to go and explore it further.

Example number 1 for today, the Pelican that escaped from Edinburgh Zoo and went for a stroll in Corstorphine.

This last one I quite admire, right up until the final sentence.

Finally, today’s News In Brief.

Let’s finish today with some music from the At Home Concert curated by and starring Lady Gaga amongst a host of others.

Thanks for reading

Stay safe x
