Happy Weekend Directors Of The Bored!
Every time I type something like that I think directly afterwards – do people even recognise weekends anymore? Is there any benefit from them, or is everything just the same for now, one day merging into the next?
I try wherever possible to maintain what anyone would laughingly call a ‘normal day’, and ordinarily would have a faint whiff of excitement the Saturday before schools return, followed by a faint whiff of gin on my breath come Monday morning at drop off.
Top Tip: If it’s in a flask people assume it’s coffee.
As it is, all we’re doing in our house come Monday is moving the kids hours back a bit so that they have some slim outside hope of making it up for the school day where the last two weeks they’ve spent (at least) the first half of it sleeping.
And before the break, we’d established the only way Child 1 was staying on top of his work was if I stayed on top of him staying on top of his work, so I guess I’m going back to school too. Child 2 finds it much easier, but then she dotes on her teacher and is quite taken with the aspect of messaging her directly and receiving videos or emails back, and also her work isn’t quite so involved. There are some days where all she’s doing is planting seeds or tending to a bug hotel.
So, if this too is your last weekend of complete relaxation for a bit before your brain starts to internally scream at you once again, make the most of it, and try to have some fun. I’ve got the perfect way to ease your way in with loads of funnies, as always, towards the bottom of the blog. Feel free to scroll down if you like….and when you catch yourself laughing, be sure to share it and help us in our aim to spread laughs around the planet quicker and for longer than Coronavirus.
First today, let’s start with People Are Amazing.
I’ve run out of words to describe the phenomenon that is the fundraising efforts of Captain Tom Moore. Inspirational from whichever way you look at it, and still raising money. I dare say there will be a TV dramatisation of it (at least). Michael Caine, Jeremy Irons, Gary Oldman and a good few of the Fox and Fiennes family will probably have already read for the part.
Every day, there’s something new about it, that keeps me going back for more.
Today, it’s this.
And a mention for this wee girl too. She wanted to do something to show her appreciation for our carers and key workers when everyone applauded on Thursday. So she took something from her world that means a lot to her, and put it front and centre in theirs.
Nothing much on The Useful front today, other than this timely reminder.

It’s time for The Funnies.
Today’s News In Brief

Let’s play out with some music.
I swear to God I’m not working PR for Gary Barlow, but he’s reliably knocking these out just now, and this is beautiful.
