Thursday April 9th #LaughterSpreadsFaster

This blog isn’t yet a month old, and my commitment to it has always been, and remains, to see us through the other side of Coronavirus. As we head towards Easter, I actually wonder how long that will be in real terms?

There are encouraging noises being made at the official daily press conferences, but I wonder how much of that is golden carrot dangling by a government keenly aware people are restless, wanting to provide a glimmer of light at the end of a seemingly endless tunnel.

I also wonder how advisable that is, as we’re approaching Easter weekend when the weather is forecast to be good once again. Will people be of a mind to risk going out because they’re of the opinion the worst is past?

I sincerely hope not.

Anyway, all that thinking nonsense is for other, clever, responsible people. We’re just here for the laughs.

The majority of them are, as always, towards the bottom of the blog.

But first, isn’t it strange how much our perception of the world has altered so much in recent days?

Last night a car pulled up by our house on the street outside. A man wearing surgical gloves got out from the driver side carrying a bottle of water. He opened the boot and poured the water out into something.

Two weeks ago I’d have thought he was a kidnapper. Last night he was a bloke who’d just walked his dog.

Behaviours have changed though, in animals and humans. We round that stuff up and present it to you in “World Of The Weird”.

No people to bother you, what are you going to do, except mooch about with your hands in your pockets.

This woman is so fed up with her hair, she’s giving herself a home haircut. With a kitchen knife.

Never let her cut your hair. Or indeed a slice of fresh bread. Or ANYTHING with that knife, EVER.

She’s not alone, although this is nowhere near as bad.

Being Thursday, once again we gather at 8pm to clap for our carers, which is a wonderful, surprisingly emotional thing. Before that I wanted to highlight some other fantastic work happening every day right now. At a time where football clubs are largely mothballed, Aberdeen FC is pressing home its belief that now, more than ever, is a period where it can benefit the community in any manner of ways.

Various initiatives are underway. The club’s RED TV is being made free for season ticket holders with way more time on their hands than usual. Classic matches are being screened. I even remote virtually announced the teams before kick off last Friday.

Players, management team and backroom staff are calling fans from the club’s database every day to see if they’re getting on OK, and if there’s anything the club can do to help them at this time.

And, take a look at this, featuring just two of my favourite Dereks.

But this next film, always hits me hardest.

Football is family. For me, that’s always been the case. I don’t think I can ever articulate how much it means to me or how proud I am to represent the club I’ve always loved. The way we’ve embraced this time to utilise it in the way we’re doing only emphasises it further.

If you can help the #StillStandingFree campaign, please do. Full details of how to do that both above, and here.

Directors Of The Bored, it’s time for the funnies.

Now, today’s News In Brief

Lockdown Dilemma: How to get back out.

Let’s play out with some music. Love this entire concept. (Wait for it)

Stay safe x

I've been on the radio for almost 30 years (not continuously!) and am a media bloke entrenched in one of the loveliest parts of the world. I present radio shows for Global on Smooth Radio, run an audio media company - Mellis Media - and I also work for Aberdeen Football Club and write for a number of local media outlets. But that's work. My life and passions revolve around my wife, Lynne, and our kids, Joshua and Gracie. I’m a dog father to Ernie.
