Tuesday April 7th #LaughterSpreadsFaster

Hello, I hope you continue to be well.

There are various points within Coronavirus as a news cycle where you stop again and take renewed notice.

When Scotland’s Chief Medical Officer ignores her own advice.

When Her Majesty The Queen wades in.

And, when the Prime Minister is admitted to hospital and moved to Intensive Care.

It may be that you yourself have a wee wobble again – it’s understandable and perfectly normal.

As much as I’ve poked gentle fun at him in the past, (along with the majority of the rest of the UK and beyond) I certainly wish him well here, and very much hope he makes a speedy recovery.

One thing I think can be agreed upon, however reluctant you may be to take up this baton, we are all in this together. Coronavirus has been the greatest leveller I can remember in my lifetime.

Whoever you are, if you contract this awful virus, I wish you the very best.

That’s why I started this blog. It keeps me useful. I’ve worked in media my entire life. This is what feels natural to me. It keeps me sane and focussed on something. Also, because I’m doing something, it tackles my own anxiety. I’ve spoken before about living with severe clinical depression and cyclothymia and what I’ve learned about myself through various help from professionals. One of those things is that for me to function at my best, I need to be alone every day for a little while. So, guess what, I get up and do this before the rest of the house wakes. It works for me in that regard as a little oasis, and the added bonus is that I hope through creating and curating all the funny stuff we make the day easier for you as well, and you get a bit of a laugh, because that’s going to be hugely important as time wears on.

More cracking funny stuff as ever below, but I also like to include some potentially useful bits and pieces for you first. We look at the slightly erratic changing behaviour being caused around the world simply by humans being predominantly indoors all the time, in “World Of The Weird”. I also like to push the fact that “People. Are. Amazing”.

And we play out with some music.

It’s ALL good.

Remember if you enjoy it, please pass it on to someone else too.

Our aim is to spread laughter around the world quicker and for longer than Coronavirus.

#LaughterSpreadsFaster

If you’ve got something funny to send us, like you telling a joke or story, or just something you happened to film on your phone….I’d love to see it.

You can get in touch through our contact page , on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

Or you can email us at any of the following, which I’m still particularly tickled about.

On with today’s offerings.

Maybe you’re doing really well at your allotted one hour of outdoor exercise per day, or perhaps you’ve got involved with Joe’s PE Classes which have proven popular.

But, if you’re still in need of motivation, there’s now a fitness option from outer space.

No, really. Even NASA are involved. Here’s a video of how they’re still able to keep fit whilst isolated on the International Space Station.

So the message is get creative about what you need to do to stay fit. I started last night with some weights work, lifting two massive tubs of ice cream out of the freezer, and then it all went catastrophically wrong. I’ll try again later.

Here’s something else to try if you’re at home with the kids just now and things occasionally become……testy. This Mum has started a Wish Jar and says, “Every time we wish we could do something, go somewhere, treat ourselves, see someone we love, visit a new place, invite people to visit us, we’re going to write it down on a post-it note and put it in a jar. When all this is over this will be our bucket list and we’ll work our way through the jar and be more grateful than ever for the little and lovely things in our lives. Until then we’ll enjoy watching the jar fill up with magical things to look forward to.”

Here’s a rare treat. What’s better than half an hour with Michael Buble? Half an hour with Michael Buble baking healthy oatmeal cookies.

And finally in our “Useful” section for today, what to do when living with your partner 24/7/365 leads to arguing.

Maybe you don’t need this.

Yet.

Or perhaps you’re at the stage where you’re wondering, “has he ALWAYS breathed THIS LOUDLY?””How do I make it STOP?”

Or, “I never realised they turn every little thing during a conversation into a song”

“…..Every little thing she does is magic….”

“NOOOOOOOOOO”

Are you at the point where they’re making your teeth itch?

It’s OK, you’re among non-judgemental friends… (most of whom live with a mouth breather or singer.)

This advice may help.

I won’t lie – it’s just a cheap gun list.

If you’re having issues staying on top of your kids washing their hands, perhaps The Rock can be of assistance.

Now, it’s important to recognise and draw the line between what’s “Useful”, and what’s crossed over into “Unusual”, because then it belongs in our World Of The Weird section.

So, you miss swimming. I get that. I don’t, however, get this.

I don’t even know this next kid and I want to kick him out.

I tell you this every day. “People. Are. Amazing.” This gent thought he’d cheer people up with a wee jig.

If your cat was rescued from a tree yesterday by a giant bear, I think I can explain.

Just love this.

And now it’s time for the funnies.

If you happen to be out for bread and milk and get stopped and questioned, sooner it’s by the Police, than this guy.

And this year’s Nobel Prize for Science goes to….

And now the “News In Brief.”

This first one comes with the lesson, even though you’re at home relaxed, always best to wear your glasses.

And let’s finish on some music. Gary Barlow’s been busy again. First, with JLS.

But odd though it may be, I think I prefer this.

Well done Matt.

Until tomorrow.

Stay safe x

I've been on the radio for almost 30 years (not continuously!) and am a media bloke entrenched in one of the loveliest parts of the world. I present radio shows for Global on Smooth Radio, run an audio media company - Mellis Media - and I also work for Aberdeen Football Club and write for a number of local media outlets. But that's work. My life and passions revolve around my wife, Lynne, and our kids, Joshua and Gracie. I’m a dog father to Ernie.
